The Gold Coast Blaze will light the fire for the first time in 2010/11 with a pre-season hit-out against a Korean Basketball Club on Sunday September 5 at the Logan Metro Sports Centre.

Much of the Blaze squad know little about each other but they will know even less about their first opponents who come to Australia a sight unseen.

The Korean club sounded out the Blaze about a possible match-up and the Gold Coast side was more than happy to oblige.

Basketball manager Big Joe Tertzakian hopes that the Blaze can use this opportunity to build a relationship with the Korean club moving forward.

“We have six new guys on the roster so obviously every pre-season game we can get is a bonus,” Big Joe said.

“But this could also be a great opportunity to create an annual event of it – maybe in the future the Blaze can take its brand to Korea for a pre-season game.”

Big Joe admits that the Blaze organisation knows very little about its opponent, but the team will be prepared for a strong outing.

“The emails I am getting from them suggest they are pretty good,” he said.

“They have two American guys in their squad and are apparently bringing two other imports.”

Big Joe said that playing the opening match in Logan was also about the Blaze spreading its’ fire.

“Logan is a bit of an untapped market. Again, it was Logan who sought to have us come up there but looking down the track they might be interested in making a regular event out of it.”
