We’re going all out this Sunday in celebration of the NBL’s Community Round!
From 3:00pm – 6:00pm, our home venue, the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre –The Furnace – will open its foyer and terrace facilities for us to host an afternoon of FREE family fun, including competitions, basketball clinics, jumping castles, junior exhibition games, giveaways and a variety of special entertainment.
Joining us for the afternoon will be our major sponsors SeaFM in addition to the Gold Coast PCYC, the Queensland Police Service, the Queensland Fire & Rescue Service, the Leukemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave, Bravehearts, Mermaid Beach SLSC, and local basketball associations to list a few (see full list below).
After the Family Fun Day has concluded at 6pm, we’ll shift focus to our Round 21 clash against the Wollongong Hawks – but the Community celebration doesn’t stop there!
There’ll be special Game Night competitions run by Bravehearts, a celebrity shootout featuring some of the stars of the Gold Coast community AND at halftime our General Manager Katie Tomlinson will have her luscious locks shaved off on court by the World’s Greatest Shave team!
Katie will be the first of the Blaze group to shave her head, with Tom Garlepp, Chris Goulding, Stephen Hoare, Will Hudson, Team Manager Big Joe, Assistant Team Manager Junior and Assistant Coach Mick Conlon all signed up to either shave hair, legs, beard or dye their hair as a part of the World’s Greatest Shave Event at Palazzo Versace on March 7.

Additionally, today we will go live with two exclusive auction items with the proceeds raised from each going to our chosen charities, the Leukemia Foundation and Bravehearts. For the Leukemia Foundation we will be auctioning off a Metal Print signed by Adam Gibson and kindly donated by the photographer of the image, and official Blaze photographer, Scott Belzner. For Bravehearts, we will be auctioning a signed and framed jersey of the eventual winner’s favourite player.

After the game, Blaze sponsor East Broadbeach will play host to the club’s third Official SLAM Party, back by popular demand to celebrate the season thus far.
From 9pm, EAST will exclusively open their doors to Blaze Members, Corporate and Community Partners, and fans for an evening featuring Australia’s #1 Urban DJ, DJ Nino Brown, in addition to the Meriton Gold Coast Blaze playing team and a host of celebrity guests.
