COMMUNITY COACHES
Two Community Coach positions have been developed, in partnership with the Basketball Development Trust, to help grow basketball Auckland by increasing the availability of basketball coaching and coaching knowledge in Primary and Intermediate schools.
Coaches will spend 20 hours of every week running in school skills and drills sessions. The aim of running the skills and drills sessions is to create an interest in basketball for the students, to show them how fun the game can be and teach them skills they need to play the game. Coaches will also encourage important social messages that are associated with the game. These social messages include the importance of goal setting, healthy eating, active living and making good choices in peer pressure situations.
These sessions will be aimed at kids of all skill levels. Community coaches will also be able to give teachers and attending coaches’ advice on their basketball training sessions and help to provide them with drills and ideas on coaching their Junior Basketball teams. Depending on school roll numbers and student availability coaches will run as many clinics as need be to ensure every student gets the opportunity to learn some basketball skills
Our Community Coaches are looking for schools now to start running their coaching sessions in. If your school is interested in free coaching from some of the leading basketball coaches in New Zealand, then email Lawrence or Hayden and book your school today!
