The Young Hoops programme is a partnership between the Basketball Development Trust (BDT) and the New Zealand Breakers, giving young New Zealanders the opportunity to learn everything it takes to play and live like a Breaker.

The Young Hoops programme targets Primary and Intermediate school children, providing a mixture of exposure to aspirational figures and hands on involvement in basketball sessions to introduce these children to the game.

The programme content focuses on three distinct modules, utilising the NZ Breakers players and profile to deliver the content:

  • BREAKERS EXPERIENCE
  • BREAKER SKILLS CLINICS

  • Season 2005-06: 22 Schools / groups  
  • Season 2006-07: 26 Schools                                    
  • Season 2007-08: 22 Schools
  • Season 2008-09: 29 Schools
  • Season 2009-10: 32 Schools
  • Season 2010-2011: 35 Schools (projected)

The NZ Breakers Experience is aimed at introducing students to what it would be like to be a professional basketball player. It is delivered in a fun, learning and challenging way to ensure students can the most out of their time with the Breakers. more
