Player Profile
A freakish athlete, Vukona does the little things that coaches love. While he won’t light up the stat sheet, Vukona’s ability to defend and rebound is fantastic and his contributions were a major part of the Dragons winning the 2008 NBL Championship. He was a major target of coach Joey Wright and his athleticism alongside Cameron and Petrie is a great fit. Vukona has greatly improved as a scoring threat. His recent 25- point outburst against Australia while playing for the Tall Blacks is a career high at any level of the game.
His return to play in the second game of the semi finals against Perth last year is the stuff of legends, he is the epitome of effort in sport with a heart the size of the Sky Tower. Mika Vukona brings his passion and no shortage of amazing ability at both ends of the court back to the SKYCITY Breakers this year.
A crowd favourite, Mika was second highest rebounder in the league last season. Often matched up against much taller opponents, he can compensate for this with his athleticism and dexterity.
Played a major part in the Breakers securing their Championship last season when he defied medical logic and took the court in the second semi final game in Perth against the Wildcats. His major contribution to the win in Perth, gave the Breakers the momentum they needed to carry them into the final and then on the championship.
