Player Profile
‘Chief’ as he is known to his team mates, Alex Pledger, returns to the SKYCITY Breakers after a stellar and award winning season with Waikato in the Bartercard NBL. Stamping his mark on the iiNet finals series with that put back one handed slam dunk, Chief will have a big role to play on the roster this year as he continues his development in the game.
23 year old Pledger debuted the Tall Blacks in 2008. He can play centre or power forward and spent two years at Belmont Abbey College in the States before arriving at the Breakers in 2009. Coach Andrej Lemanis has big belief in his big man, look for more minutes and more influence from Pledge this season, especially up against the bigger rosters like the Melbourne Tigers and Perth Wildcats. In the 2010/11 season Pledger was a part of the Breakers NBL Championship victory.
Alex had a tremendous 2011 establishing himself as one of the leading young Centres in Australasia. Not only did he win a championship with the Breakers last season but took out the Most Valuable Player award in the 2011 NZNBL season.. Alex scored 206 points and pulled down 158 rebounds last season. Alex can be expected to add significantly to these numbers this season.
