After spending last season as an assistant coach at the club, the departure of Trevor Gleeson to the Melbourne Tigers opened the day for Paul Woolpert to take the top job for the 2011/12 iinet NBL Championship. Paul comes into the job with a wealth of experience coaching in the United States, including three championships with the Yakima Sun Kings in the CBA. Leaving the CBA as the fifth winningest coach in the league’s history, Woolpert then spent a year coaching the Tulsa 66ers in the NBA’S development league. After some time off coaching following the 09/09 D-League season, Woolpert was lured to Australia by his former colleague Gleeson. After helping the team to a semi-finals berth last year Paul signed a four year deal earlier this year that will see him coach the Crocs until at least 2014. Paul is a known as a great communicator with an outstanding knowledge of the intricacies of pro basketball and will be hopeful of delivering a maiden NBL Championship to the club in the 2011/12 season. | Born and raised in Brisbane, Liam started coaching representative basketball at the age of 13 at the Southern District Spartans. He then moved to Adelaide at age 19 and spent 10 years living and coaching there before his move to Townsville. In Adelaide he coached at the Sturt Sabres Basketball Club, where he is a life member, starting as the Under 14’s coach and then moving his way up to the Head Coach of the senior men’s team in the ABL. As a state league coach for the Sabres his teams made the playoffs every year, and finished runners-up in 2009. He also coached SA Metro teams from Under 16’s through to Under 20’s, finishing with numerous medals and top four finishes, coaching teams that future Crocs Luke Schenscher and Brad Newley. In the 2007-2008 NBL Season, Flynn was hired as an assistant coach at the Adelaide 36ers where he spent three seasons. Liam then made the move to Townsville for the 2011/11 season. The Crocs fell just one game short of the NBL Grand Final series in his first year at Townsville, after narrowly losing to the Cairns Taipans in the semis. Liam is back on as an assistant coach this year under Paul Woolpert, and also currently heads the Crocs talent identification and Development program - Sharp Start, where he works with the brightest young basketball players from around North Queensland. He is also the Head Coach of the Townsville Heat in the QBL, a team that features several of the Crocs young stars. Liam is married to Tracy and they have a daughter Ruby, with a second child due for the couple in May 2012. |
