The National Basketball League (NBL) celebrates Heritage Round this weekend with teams taking on a 90’s theme and wearing limited edition Mitchell & Ness Jerseys.
The official Apparel Partner of the NBL, Mitchell & Ness, has created the iconic jerseys which coincides with their announcement that they will continue to partner with the League for a further two seasons (2017/18 & 2018/19).
All teams will be wearing jerseys from a significant year in their history. The Adelaide 36ers have chosen 1995 when the team made the Semi Finals losing to the Wildcats, while the Brisbane Bullets have chosen to celebrate the 1987 Championship team and 1990 Grand Final team, incorporating elements of both.
Cairns will be wearing a combination jersey from 1999/2000 which was their first season in the NBL, while the Illawarra Hawks have selected 1998/99 when they finished third, moved into their new home stadium, Wollongong Entertainment Centre, and Brendan Joyce was named Coach of the Year.
Melbourne United’s jerseys are from 1992, when Victoria had its first Championship team in the 90’s and South East Melbourne Magic’s 1996 NBL Championship team, while Perth Wildcats have chosen their 1995 Championship winning team’s uniform.
The Sydney Kings who do not have a home game in Round 15 showcased their jerseys from 1992 last weekend at Qudos Bank Arena and will wear the uniforms again this weekend against New Zealand in Auckland.
NBL CEO Jeremy Loeliger said it was fantastic to have Mitchell & Ness continue its partnership with the League and that it highlighted the continued growth of both the profile and coverage of the NBL globally.
“Mitchell & Ness have a long history in knowing what works in sports retail and apparel while also having cutting edge expertise at their fingertips.”
“We look forward to partnering with them for the next few years and think it is fitting to announce the partnership extension with the launch of the Heritage Jerseys which showcase iconic designs from the past.”
“This Round will be a blast from the past for sports fans, and hopefully serves as a wonderful reminder as to how far basketball has come in this country and the role that it has played as a major part of our wonderful sporting landscape for over 35 years.”
Mitchell & Ness International, General Manager, Jon Miller agreed. “With the success of the 2016/2017 NBL deal as official on court and off court partners, Mitchell & Ness are delighted to announce this will be extended throughout the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 seasons continuing to produce apparel and headwear across all teams in the league.
Watching the NBL continue to grow we are excited to see what the next two seasons bring.”
