What a Way To Win It

James Crawford will always be considered one of the NBL all-time greats and on this occasion he certainly lived up to his nickname of ‘The Alabama Slamma’.

In the first 12 rounds of 1993, the Perth Wildcats were leading the League with 11 wins and 2 losses and had to travel to Canberra to face the sixth placed Cannons who were 8 wins and 6 losses.

After a disappointing 1992 when Perth finished sixth after back to back Championships in 1990 and 1991, The Wildcats brought in Australian Boomers coach Adrian Hurley to steady the ship, but he was a late withdrawl for the trip to the Nation’s capital due to illness and assistant coach Dave Hancock would step up to be the head coach in what would turn out to be the only time in his career.
