Loggins in bid to bring back Bullets

July 31, 2010, 10:30 PM AEST

The Brisbane Times has reported that NBL Hall of Famer Leroy Loggins is spearheading a renewed push to bring the Brisbane Bullets back into the NBL.

Phil Lutton of the Brisbane Times writes that Loggins “is one of the figures behind the drive to unite the basketball community” in an attempt to resurrect the Bullets.

Brisbane left the competition in June 2008 after owner Eddy Groves failed to find a buyer for the team’s license and subsequently handed it back to the NBL.

Loggins will reportedly attend a meeting at the Carina Leagues Club on Creek Road on Wednesday, August 11, at 6.30pm where he is hoping to establish a "Team of Ten" to lead the quest for a new Bullets team, including a chairperson, finance delegate, legal advisor and Basketball Australia representative.  They will reportedly be tasked with finding a chief executive and setting a five-year survival plan.

The Hall of Famer reportedly wrote a letter to the Brisbane basketball community calling for all parties to unite in support of the push for a renewed NBL presence in Brisbane.

"The city of Brisbane has for far too long been without a basketball team within the National Basketball League and you are invited to be part of fixing the problem, working together doing something about it, for our great community," the Brisbane Times quoted Loggins’ letter.

"We thank those that have been working behind the scenes in various groups but it is time we all worked together to make possible a team in Brisbane where our young men can aspire to play in the coming years."

Basketball Australia has confirmed that NBL General Manager Chuck Harmison will attend the meeting to represent BA and the NBL.
