As part of the Heart Foundation's push during February to raise awareness of heart disease, on Friday 10 February the Sydney Kings will be using their game against the Gold Coast Blaze to show their support as an important partner to the Foundation.

Heart Foundation NSW - CEO, Tony Thirlwell said he hopes as many people as possible can attend the game on Saturday.

"Heart disease claims the life of an Australian every hour of every day. An alarming statistic that the Heart Foundation is dedicated to beating with the support of the Sydney Kings, Mr Thirlwell said.

"With cardiovascular disease still the leading cause of death in Australia, the Heart Foundation is urging Australians to show their heart during February by hosting an event, morning tea or dress in red to raise funds for research into the nation's biggest killer," Mr Thirlwell said.

Sydney Kings General Manager, David Wolf, said that raising awareness of such an important community health issue was at the core of the organization.

"The Sydney Kings stand alongside the Heart Foundation and are proud to be using our game on Friday as a vehicle through which to remind the community about the devastating effect of heart disease, Mr Wolf said.

"To illustrate this important message, our game night entertainment will also have a focus on active and healthy lifestyles, something our players already spend a lot of time advocating throughout our school and community program." Mr Wolf said.

"In Australia, every hour of every day, someone dies from a heart attack.  It is because of this reason we work tirelessly to find a cure to help protect the millions of people whose lives are adversely affected," Mr Thirlwell said.

As the largest non-government funding body for cardiovascular research, in 2011 the Heart Foundation invested over $13.6million into research.  In NSW alone we have funded 40 researchers for critical research and community projects that will improve awareness, prevention and treatment of heart disease.

"This vital work would not be possible without donations from the public so I would like to encourage everyone who can to show their heart this February and support the Heart Foundation's important work," Mr Thirlwell said.
