The Gold Coast Blaze are pleased to announce the signing of promising Australian big man Ater Majok for the rest of the season.  
 
Majok will provide a big body to replace the loss of Mark Worthington, who on Friday underwent surgery to repair a broken scaphoid in his wrist. Worthington had courageously played through the pain of the injury for the past three weeks but what was thought to be a sprain was later diagnosed as a break, necessitating surgery. He will miss the next 6 weeks, or all of the regular season.
 
Majok is an exciting young player with a unique background. Born in Sudan, he spent much of his youth in an Egyptian refugee camp. He later emigrated to Sydney where he was an excellent junior representative player. Majok started last year for the storied University of Connecticut college basketball program. He turned pro this season and after enjoying success in Turkey, moved to the Perth Wildcats on a short term contract as injury cover. His contract ended Friday and we are now able to confirm his signing.  
 
Majok is a super athletic 6’10 centre (208cm) with a gigantic 7’5 (221cm) wingspan. His ability inside means he already leads the league in blocked shots, despite only playing limited minutes in Perth. His energy and enthusiasm means he is sure to become a cult favourite on the Glitter Strip.
 
Majok has been cleared to play by Perth and a he is expected to play some minutes in today’s vital matchup with Adelaide.  
 
Majok will combine with fellow newcomer Luke Kendall to provide much needed depth, as the Blaze look to reach the final four and experience playoff basketball for the second consecutive year.
