The Melbourne Tigers have signed point guard Shane McDonald to their active playing roster on a short term contract.
McDonald, a 26 year old school teacher, has spent time in the NBL with both the Singapore Slingers (2007/08, 29 games) and Perth Wildcats (2008/09, 5 games).
The 187cm point guard has been playing in the SEABL league with the Nunawading Spectres since returning from Perth. Last season he led the Spectres to the championship, scoring a season high 28 points in the grand final and was crowned the 2011 SEABL Grand Final MVP after averaging 17.7 points, 6.3 assists and 5.3 rebounds through the finals series. He was also named in the 2011 SEABL South All-Star Five after averaging 14.5 points and 5.4 assists across the season.
McDonald trained with the Tigers today and will join the team for their New Zealand road game on the 19th of January.
The Tigers are close to finalising their vacant import position, with an announcement expected in the coming days.
