Damian Martin


2014/15: Perth Wildcats captain Damian Martin again led from the front in 2014/15 as won of the team’s best performers. He continued to terrorise opponents with relentless defensive pressure, coming up with a league-leading 81 steals for the season – including nine against Sydney in October. He averaged 6.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game on his way to being named the NBL’s Best Defensive Player for the fifth straight season. He scored double-digit totals on five occasions, and grabbed five or more rebounds on 10 occasions and five or more assists on nine occasions.

Career: Damian Martin captained Australia’s under-20 team to a world championship in 2003, defeating the USA in the gold medal game. He then attended Loyola Marymount University before making his NBL debut for the Sydney Spirit in the 2008/09 season. The Perth Wildcats recruited Martin in 2009 where he became a Championship player with the club in his first season. He also captained the team to the 2014 Championship. Throughout his career, he has averaged 7.3 points per game, 5.2 rebound, 3.4 assists and 2.1 steals.
