Code of Conduct

Player Code of Conduct

•    Having fun is the most important reason for playing.

•    Play by the rules.

•    Be a fair winner and a good loser.

•    Never argue with a referee. Accept all decisions. If you disagree ask your captain
     or
 coach to discuss the matter.

•    Co-operate in a positive manner with your coach, team mates, team manger and
     opponents.

•    Be committed. Arrive on time for games and trainings. Tell your coach or team
manager if you can’t make it.

•    Wear the correct clothing for games and training.

•    Look after your basketball equipment.

•    Be a team player. Work just as hard for your team as for yourself.

•    Do not verbally or physically abuse, vilify or tease opponents, teammates, coach,
     team manager, referees or spectators.

•    Be a good sport. Applaud all good play by your team and opposition.

•    Give a hand. Always help a fallen player to their feet whether it is a team mate or an
     opponent.

Parent Code of Conduct

•    Pay all registration, uniform, tournament, game and training fees.

•    Encourage participation, but don’t coerce. Young basketballers do not play for the
     entertainment of parents or spectators.

•    Expect players to play by the rules. Set a good example by your own conduct,
     behaviour and appearance.

•    Accept all referee decisions. Do not comment from the sidelines.

•    Do not verbally or physically abuse or vilify coaches, team manager, referees, other
     parents or spectators.

•    If you find a game too intense to remain calm then leave the court area until you
     have regained your composure.

•    Teach your daughter to respect their team mates, opponents and to accept losses
     without undue disappointment.

•    Be positive. Applaud good play by your team and by opponents. Never ridicule
     mistakes.

•    Do not coach from the sidelines.

•    Support your coach: arrive on time. Encourage practice away from formal training
     and games.

•    Assist the club in one fundraising event and take your turn at scorebench duties.

•    Be a role model for your child. Acknowledge all good plays by your children’s team
     or the other team.

•    Do not criticise your or other children in front of others.

•    Respect decisions made by the Club, Coach or Team Manager. They are acting in
the best interests of the entire club. You are welcome to disagree at any time but
do so in a positive/constructive manner.

The Melbourne Tigers Basketball Club does not tolerate abuse or discrimination in any form: physical, verbal, racial and/or gender.
