This is an example of a 24-Second violation. It is a violation if the ball hasn’t left the shooter’s hands before the shot clock signal sounds. When the backboard is equipped with yellow or red lighting, the lighting takes precedence over the shot clock signal sound. In this example, White 14 drives to the basket near the end of his team’s shot clock phase. White 14 jumps to start his lay-up action when the shot clock signal sounds and the red light around the backboard illuminates with the ball still in his hands. This is a 24-Second violation by the White team.
