This is an example of a 3-Second violation. A player shall not remain in the restricted area for more than 3 consecutive seconds while his team is in control of a live ball in the frontcourt and the game clock is running. A player must place both feet on the floor outside the restricted area to be deemed to have left the restricted area. In this example, White 3 enters the restricted area with his right foot while the ball is in his team’s frontcourt during a clock running phase. He receives a pass and dribbles, but after more 3 seconds have elapsed, chooses to pass the ball rather than attempt a shot. This is a 3 -Second violation by White 3.
