In example 5, the defender established a legal guarding position initially inside the defensive semi-circle. The defender elevates vertically prior to any contact by the offensive player, therefore they are now outside the defensive semi-circle. There is no illegal contact by the defender or the offence and the play is correctly adjudicated as a no call. This example is to illustrate how a defender can defend plays at the rim as it relates to the defensive semi-circle. There is no change in how this is called from previous seasons as the defender is not in contact with the semi-circle.
Outcome - No call correct. Defender outside the defensive semi-circle (jumps vertically) prior to any contact.
