This is an example of an incorrect no call for a ball returned to the back court. In this example, Black 44 dribbles the ball into his team’s front court establishing the required 3 points of contact, (both feet and dribbling the ball). He then picks up the ball and passes backwards to Black 6 who is still transitioning up the court but is in the back court.

When Black 6 takes possession of the ball he has not established himself in the front court, thus when he touches the ball, he is in the back court, and therefore a violation has occurred. This should have been a returned to the back court violation against Black, with White team inbounding from their front court with 14 seconds on the shot clock.
