Legal Guarding Position | Example II

This is an example of a no call. Once a defender has established initial legal guarding position, they can move laterally to maintain legal guarding position. The defensive player may have one or both feet off the floor for an instant as long as the movement is not towards the player with the ball. In this example, White 21 establishes an initial legal guarding position with both feet on the floor and facing ball-handler Blue 14. White 21 then slides laterally, and not toward Blue 14, to maintain legal guarding position when contact occurs. Blue 14 fumbles the ball. This is a no call and play shall continue.
