Offensive Foul On Dribble | Example II

This is an example of a charging foul. An offensive player with the ball must expect to be guarded and be prepared to stop or change direction whenever a defensive player establishes a legal guarding position. In this example, White 21 is guarding ball-handler Red 18 on a move to the basket and establishes an initial legal guarding position by facing Red 18 with both feet on the floor. White 21 then maintains his legal guarding position by moving backwards and laterally when Red 18 causes illegal contact with White 21’s torso. This is a charging foul by Red 18.
