Round 6 Buy, Hold, Sell, Captain: SuperCoach NBL Classic

Form, doubles and head-to-heads: the three tests behind every SuperCoach NBL call for Round 6.

The Los Angeles Lakers had “Big Aristotle” Shaquille O’Neal and “Black Mamba” Kobe Bryant. The New Zealand Breakers have “Slammin’” Sam Mennenga ($303,100), now $356,800, and “By George” Carlin Davison ($121,600), now $229,600.
Davison has taken to the point guard spot like a duck to water with Parker Jackson-Cartwright ($405,200), now $468,300, sidelined, while Mennenga is punching points like a pinball arcade.
The Breakers have three double-headers up to Round 10, and both are due a price rise. Davison could have 15 turnovers and no other stats in Round 6 and still beat his breakeven.
Mennenga only needs a couple of buckets and some boards in the first half to beat his breakeven.
The choice is to get them in now, before their prices go up ahead of Rounds 7, 9 and 10 (if you don’t already have them).

Brisbane, Illawarra, Melbourne and Sydney each play twice in Round 6. Brisbane doubles again in Rounds 7, 8 and 9, and Sydney doubles in five of the next seven rounds.
So this week we have run every option through three tests.
Form: what has he scored in his last three games?
Doubles: how many games does he get this round, and how many more doubles are coming?
And the one that settles the close calls: what did he score the last time he played the team he is about to play?
Some of the answers are loud. Max Mackinnon ($200,000), now $227,700, scored 55 the last time Brisbane played Illawarra. Will Magnay ($269,300), now $358,800, scored 59, his season-high, the last time Tasmania played Brisbane. The two sides meet again this week.
Our Round 5 Buys returned 97 from Taran Armstrong ($304,700), now $326,900, on the back of his career-high 32 points against the Breakers, and 82 from Kendric Davis ($436,000), now $413,300. Josh Bannan ($317,500), now $297,200, managed 35 across two games, and he is now a sell.
Round 6 tips off at 7:30pm (AEDT) on Wednesday, October 21, when Tasmania hosts Brisbane in Hobart.
Buy
Kendric Davis ($436,000), now $413,300, is still $22,700 under his starting price. He has the second-best average in the game, 41.5, behind the injured Jackson-Cartwright, and scored 37 and 45 in Round 5. Sydney plays at Illawarra on Thursday and at Melbourne on Sunday. He scored 46 against the Hawks in Round 2. Sydney doubles five times between Rounds 6 and 12.
Nate Hinton ($277,000), now $313,200, 37.7 across his last three games. Brisbane doubles in Rounds 6, 7, 8 and 9. He scored 43 against Illawarra in Round 2 and 30 against Tasmania in Round 3, and both are on the Round 6 card.
Value: Max Mackinnon ($200,000), now $227,700, 49 in Round 5 and 55 the last time he played Illawarra, his best game of the season. Brisbane plays Tasmania on Wednesday and Illawarra on Saturday.
Josh Oduro ($277,000), now $332,600, 38.3 across his last three games, including 60 in Round 4. Melbourne plays at Perth on Friday and hosts Sydney on Sunday. He has not played either club this season, so there is no head-to-head to lean on.
Differentials: Torrey Craig ($290,400), now $268,500, scored 37 and 38 in Round 5. Andrew Carr ($277,000), now $257,100, scored 37 and 34. Fewer than one coach in 20 owns either of them. Craig scored 29 against Illawarra in Round 2 and Carr 26.
Buy now for Round 7: Carlin Davison ($121,600), now $229,600, took the biggest price rise of the Round 5 update, $66,500, after scoring 61 and 41 with Jackson-Cartwright out. The Breakers play once in Round 6, at Cairns, then double in Rounds 7, 9 and 10.
Cash cows: Makur Maker ($99,800), now $151,900, scored 33 in Round 5, the night of his career-high 23 points in Illawarra’s win in Melbourne, and his price is up $52,100 since he arrived. The Hawks host Sydney and Brisbane. Makuach Maluach ($134,500), now $191,000, scored 41 and 25 in Round 5, and Sydney plays twice.
Hold
Cole Anthony ($300,000), now $341,200, 41, 37 and 38 in his last three games. Melbourne doubles in Rounds 6, 7, 9 and 11. Never sell.
Sam Mennenga ($303,100), now $356,800, has the best form of any fit player in the game: 62, 50 and 46 in his last three games. He was up $54,500 in the Round 5 update. The Breakers play once in Round 6, at Cairns, and he scored 34 against the Taipans in Round 3. Then come doubles in Rounds 7, 9 and 10.
Bryce Cotton ($473,900), now $416,500. We had him in Sell for Round 5 and he scored 52, closing out Tasmania with 8 straight points. His price rose $15,800. Adelaide plays once, at SE Melbourne, and he scored 46 against the Phoenix in the deciding game of last season’s finals series on March 17.
Will Magnay ($269,300), now $358,800, single game at home to Brisbane, the side he scored 59 against on October 3. Tasmania doubles in Round 7.
Taran Armstrong ($304,700), now $326,900, 46 and 51 in Round 5. He scored 35 against Brisbane in Round 3, and Tasmania doubles in Round 7.
Nick Rakocevic ($188,400), now $348,200, 38.0 average and owned by about a third of the game. Single game at SE Melbourne, and he scored 30 against the Phoenix in that March 17 decider. Adelaide doubles in Rounds 7, 11 and 12.
Ben Gold ($69,000), now $110,600, owned by almost half the game and still rising, up $13,500 in the Round 5 update. Hold him for Tasmania’s Round 7 double.
Sell
Dash Daniels ($115,000), now $180,200. Owned by about four in 10 coaches, he has scored 12, 15 and 17 in his last three games and lost $13,700 in the Round 5 update. SE Melbourne plays once, at home to Adelaide, and does not double until Round 9. Take the profit.
Josh Bannan ($317,500), now $297,200, 19 and 16 in Round 5 and down $22,100. The case to keep him is 45 against Brisbane in Round 3, but Tasmania plays once and his last two games returned 35 between them.
Elijah Pepper ($202,700), now $265,400, 4 in Round 5 and down $18,800. Perth hosts Melbourne once, and he scored 17 the last time the clubs met, in last season’s play-in game on March 7.
Jack McVeigh ($349,800), now $303,700, 5 in Round 5 and down $11,700. Charles Bediako ($277,000), now $203,900, is down $21,000 after 5 and 18 in Round 5. Both play once.
Injured and still owned: Tanner Krebs ($150,300), now $170,400, failed a fitness test before SE Melbourne’s last game and is listed out, and the Phoenix do not double until Round 9. Parker Jackson-Cartwright ($405,200), now $468,300 (lower leg), is still out. So is Arnas Velicka ($277,000), now $301,900 (lower limb, expected back early December).
Late mail: Tyrell Harrison ($336,100), now $356,700, left Brisbane’s win over SE Melbourne on October 15 with an ankle injury and has no timeline. If he is cleared, he is a buy: he scored 48 against Tasmania in Round 3, and Brisbane plays twice. Until then, Hinton and Mackinnon are the Bullets to own.
Captain
Kendric Davis: 41.5 average, at Illawarra on Thursday and at Melbourne on Sunday. He scored 46 against the Hawks in Round 2.
Cole Anthony: 36.6 average, at Perth on Friday and home to Sydney on Sunday.

Josh Oduro: 38.3 across his last three games, with the same two Melbourne games as Anthony.
Single-game option: Sam Mennenga, 52.7 across his last three games, at Cairns on Sunday.
