Talking points

Unleash the beast
Since the final siren sounded last Sunday against Sydney, the South East Melbourne Phoenix have been champing at the bit to get back on the court.

Tie in the fact of all the noise surrounding the club this week and Josh King’s side will be charged up. Especially with a top-two spot well and truly in their sights.

Make it ugly
Unlike the run-and-gun Phoenix, the JackJumpers will want to slow the pace right down on Saturday.

Like they’ve done all season, including a big win in Adelaide, they want to grind out every play and 'Defend the Island'.

If they do that and can secure the win, it would all but assure their spot in the Finals too.

What they're saying

Phoenix coach Josh King on his side rebounding from their loss to Sydney:
“If you want to win a championship, it has to be at the defensive end and when we get stops and get out and run, we can beat anyone, but our defence has to be a focal point.

"[On this occasion] our defence was trash, our offence was trash and it's all connected, our performance was trash and we'll get better and I'm confident we can shake off a bad day and get better from it.

"It was a bad day to have a bad game and we'll see how we respond to this, because you want to see how your team responds to a little bit of adversity."

JackJumpers coach Scott Roth on his team's willingness to scrap for every win:
"You're going to have to expend a lot of energy to beat us and that's just the way it's been.

"Nothing's been given to us and we'll scrap and fight as best we can, and keep doing the best we can as far as we go this season."
