REPORT: United remain in hunt for star import

Melbourne United remain in discussions with import big man Jesse Edwards, despite growing reports linking the Dutch centre with European club Roma SPQR, according to ESPN insider Olgun Uluc.

Speaking from the 2026 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Uluc said speculation that Edwards has already signed with Roma appears premature, with negotiations between United and the 25-year-old still ongoing.

“There’s some reporting out there that he’s signed with Roma. I’m not entirely sure ... there’s a lot of interest from Roma in him – Roma’s a Luka Doncic-owned team – but it still sounds like there are discussions happening between Jesse Edwards and Melbourne United," Uluc reported.

Roma SPQR has emerged as a serious European suitor, but Uluc stressed no deal appears to have been finalised at this stage.

“I’m told as of right now, conversations between Jesse Edwards and Melbourne United are still happening.”

There remains genuine optimism that Edwards could return to Melbourne following a successful Hungry Jack’s NBL26 campaign.

“I would watch this space. He really enjoyed his time in Melbourne, his family really enjoyed his time in Melbourne. It seems like there’s mutual interest in a reunion,” Uluc added.

Edwards was one of United’s standout imports during the 2025-26 season. The seven-footer produced strong numbers at both ends of the floor, establishing himself as one of the league’s premier rim protectors and interior finishers.
