‘Completely shocked’: Boomers star reacts to Anthony signing

The significance of a proven NBA talent coming to the NBL in his prime can’t be understated, according to Australian Boomers star Jock Landale.

The Atlanta Hawks big man believes Melbourne United’s acquisition of Cole Anthony is a huge coup for the League and could pave the way for more established stars to come to Australia.

“I had no idea it was coming. I was completely shocked,” he said of the news, during an interview on Triple M's Rush Hour.

“(He’s an) incredibly talented scorer, highly athletic and one of those guys who just loves to hoop.

“I understand that’s a big reason he signed out here ... he was like ‘I want to go play some basketball’. Being a 26-year-old, hit the rest button, and I think he’s made a great decision, given I was playing at United when I was 26 as well.”

Anthony played 35 games with the Milwaukee Bucks in his most recent season, following four highly successful years in Orlando.

He arrives in the NBL at the peak of his powers, with many believing he could emerge as a new challenger for MVP honours alongside Bryce Cotton and Kendric Davis.

“I think he’s going to really find himself in a good situation here,” Landale added.

Speaking on *The Marketplace*, presented by Paywise, NBL champion Pete Hooley also highlighted the significance of Anthony’s signing.

"This is monumental for them [United], and for the League,” he said.

"This is a guy who people are saying is in his prime, but he's technically [not even in] his prime yet.

"Someone at such a young age who's choosing the NBL right now is massive."
