Ten days to ramp up: The Wildcats' plan for Brandon Knight

The wait for Brandon Knight is nearly over, with the Perth Wildcats star expected to arrive on Wednesday.

During a pre-game broadcast interview with ESPN in Round 2, Wildcats GM Danny Mills explained the plan for the former NBA talent.

"We're excited, as Brandon arrives Wednesday morning," Mills said.

"We'll obviously get him through his medicals and the likelihood is he won't be available for Friday [to face South East Melbourne].

"But that's a good [thing], as it gives us about 10 days to ramp up into game five, which is against New Zealand on October 10.

"We need point guard play, everyone understands that, but that's coming and we're excited about that."

When asked why the club took so long to lock in their point guard for the Hungry Jack's NBL27 Season, Mills said:

"I don't think it's any secret, as it's public knowledge, that we tried to sign Brandon at the end of January last year [2026] [before the Finals deadline.

"We couldn't come to an agreement, as he ended up playing for the USA in the [FIBA] Qualifiers and then into Puerto Rico.

"As we do, we talked to a lot of players, and Brandon was always in discussions.

"When we got down to it and he wanted to come, we kind of sat down and the date that he could actually get here with obligations, as he had to be in the United States, didn't fit the start of the season.

"But, because of the faith we have in him, the person he is and who we think he can be on our team, we're all comfortable with that and that's where we landed."

The Wildcats, who are 2-1 on the season, host the Phoenix on Friday from 9.30pm AEST, live on ESPN.
