The New Zealand Breakers are making moves both on and off the court, with reports surfacing that they are about to sign a new import.
According to foxsports.com.au’s Jai Shadlow, the Breakers are linked with German guard Nelson Weidemann as a replacement for Josiah-Jordan James, who tore his hamstring against Melbourne in the pre-season.
Weidemann, 27, has previously been coached by Breakers Head Coach Gordon Herbert during their time with the German national team, representing Germany at the 2023 FIBA World Cup European Qualifiers.
The pair also have connections through German powerhouse Bayern Munich.
Weidemann has spent the majority of his hoops journey playing in Germany’s Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), dating back to 2013 and his time with ALBA Berlin.
Stints with Nuremberg Falcons, Bayern Munich’s development system, Ratiopharm Ulm and Rasta Vechta followed for the experienced guard.
Most recently, in his four games for Vechta this season, he averaged 7.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 21.8 minutes per game.
The Breakers travel to RAC Arena on Saturday to play the Perth Wildcats from 9.30pm AEDT, live on ESPN, 9 and 9Now.
