Success built on sacrifice: Boomers laying the groundwork for Qatar 2027

National team coach Adam Caporn says he couldn't be prouder of Australia's best players for taking it upon themselves to organise a mini-camp in Melbourne this week.

With the Boomers already turning their attention to the FIBA World Cup in Qatar next year, a host of NBL and international talent has assembled at Courtside in Melbourne, determined to go one better after finishing tenth in 2023 and sixth at the 2024 Olympics.

The likes of Josh Giddey, Dyson Daniels and Jock Landale have linked up with NBL stars Matthew Dellavedova, Jack McVeigh and Xavier Cooks for the player-driven session, while Ben Simmons' return to the court has been one of the biggest talking points in world basketball.

"I give the players so much credit, they are making sacrifices to be around each other and work on their game, I feel like we are blessed by how passionate and engaged our players are with the Boomers program," Caporn told CODE Sports.

The camp isn't officially sanctioned by Basketball Australia, but it's given the squad a rare chance to train together after flying in from across the globe.

"Any chance we can all come together as Australians that play in all four corners of the world, it's great," Dyson Daniels said.

Daniels said the players are hopeful the camp can become an annual fixture on the Boomers' calendar.
