'A steal for us': Hawks land star import

The Illawarra Hawks have officially signed NBL champion Milton Doyle for the fast-approaching Hungry Jack's NBL27 Season.

Doyle, who spent three seasons in Tasmania before lining up with Melbourne last season, joins the Hawks on a one-year deal as their second import, alongside Tyler Harvey.

With 131 games to his name while being a proven scorer and winner at an NBL level, coach Justin Tatum is thrilled to add Doyle to his team's core for the upcoming season.

"I like big guards; they are some of my favourite type of players to have on my team ... getting Milton was a steal for us," Tatum said to the Illawarra Mercury.

Tatum believes Doyle, who has career averages of 15.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists, can replicate the success Trey Kell III had for the Hawks during their NBL25 championship run.

"It's hard to replace those guys, but at the end of the day we got some guys who understand how to play ball. And there are more to come," he said.

The Hawks, who have Harvey, Froling, Will Hickey, Wani Swaka Lo Buluk, Todd Blanchfield, Dan Grida, Kobe McDowell-White, Johny Narkle, Mason Peatling and Amarco Doyle all signed, will open their 2026-27 campaign on Sunday, September 20 against the New Zealand Breakers at Spark Arena.
