Tyson Walker's clutch triple helped United equal their best-ever start to an NBL season.

It was a case of cometh the moment, cometh the man for Tyson Walker on Sunday.

With 2.5 seconds left on the game clock, the US import hit a clutch triple to put his Melbourne United outfit up by one over Adelaide.

Ultimately, that shot proved the difference, as the hosts at John Cain Arena won 81-80.

"When Milton [Doyle] shot it, I thought it was going in," Walker said in the post-game press conference.

"Then I saw Jesse [Edwards] flying in the air for it. I stepped out just in case and the ball bounced to me. So, I just figured out where I was at [in relation to the court] and shot the ball.

"It is always great to hit a big shot, especially as I was struggling scoring the ball today. To see that one go through, it was great and hopefully I get to do it more often."

The win moves United to 9-0 on the season, equalling their best ever start to a NBL season.

"I said to the group before the weekend (which also included a win over Cairns on Friday) that we had the opportunity to match our best start to a season and be part of history with this group," United coach Dean Vickerman said.

"It was great to achieve that and finish off this three game block, which we break our season into, on a positive note, in front of our unbelievable home crowd."

United will look to secure their franchise best start to a season on Melbourne Cup eve, when they host Sydney at John Cain Arena.
