NBL issues statement on Taipans/JackJumpers fixture

The Hungry Jack’s NBL has considered a key play from the Round 2 game between the Cairns Taipans and the Tasmania JackJumpers at Cairns Convention Centre on Wednesday, September 23.

NBL Head of Referees Scott Butler has confirmed that Keanu Pinder fouled Dakota Mathias in the act of shooting with 8 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

A foul should have been called, which would have awarded Mathias three free throws.

As no call was made on the floor, the play could not be revised.

Under the rules, there is no mechanism to impose or reverse a decision that was not called during play.

"Our officials hold themselves to a very high standard, and we don't shy away from acknowledging when we get it wrong," Butler said.

"We have reviewed the play with the officiating crew as part of our standard post-game training process."

Cairns next plays Adelaide on Sunday, while Tasmania hosts Melbourne on October 1.
