Experts clash over what's wrong with Taipans' offence

While the Taipans look ahead to Wednesday night's home opener against the Tasmania JackJumpers, the NBL Overtime panel are looking for answers.

"What the Cairns Taipans need to do … and I thought it might wait for later, but they got to pull the trigger on their next import," Damon Lowery said.

"They got to bring in one, don't mess around."

The Taipans went down by 21 points to the Sydney Kings on Sunday in a result that had head coach Adam Forde highlighting the team's emotional response as a key reason for their disappointing loss.

"They need a consistent scorer to go alongside what they already got," Lowery added.

Fellow panellist Pete Hooley responded to Lowery's claims, highlighting that they already have that key piece.

"See, they already have their scoring import and it's Jaylon Brown," he said.

"Right now, they are asking him to play a floor general, which is not his game. I flagged this in the pre-season.

"This guy was brought in as a high-level scorer; he's got to be the two guard.

"He can handle a little bit at times, but they need that floor general to understand that Jack McVeigh, 'ok where do you want the ball this possession? ... Keanu, come get in the ball screen … then Jaylon Brown, hey we're going to get you going."

There has been a lot of hype around this Taipans roster build in the off-season, with two key marquee big men in McVeigh and Keanu Pinder leading the way.

"It's one game, you don't want to overreact, but that's something they might look into … It might be Shaun Bruce who has to start for a bit," Hooley noted.
