NBL fans got their first glimpse of Cole Anthony on Saturday and the NBA talent lived up to the hype.
In just 24 minutes of game time, Anthony erupted for 27 points (including 5 triples), 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals, as United defeated Cairns 113-97.
As impressive as the showing was at Casey Stadium, the former Orlando Magic and Milwaukee Bucks guard has promised even more when the Hungry Jack's NBL27 Season officially tips off.
"I'm going to keep it a buck, this was solid but, I promise you, I'm out of shape," Anthony told CODE Sports.
"I've been running every day after practice and I'm going to keep that up, but we've got a long way to go. I feel like I'm still getting my legs under me and I need more conditioning but, once I get that, it's going to be a fun season."
As excited as he was about the performances, the 26-year-old knows won't play out like that every night.
"If I'm going to step out on the court, I want to put my best foot forward every time," Anthony said.
"Sometimes, the basketball gods are on your side. They were on my side tonight, but I also put a lot of work in for this moment. It was a good start - but it might not be like that every game."
Anthony and his United side now head to Bendigo for the CODE Sports NBL Blitz, where they will face Perth (Friday, September 4) and Illawarra (Sunday, September 6) before tipping off their NBL27 season on September 19 against Adelaide at John Cain Arena.
