Talking points

Big man battle

Last season, Sam Mennenga and Will Magnay provided fans with some of the most exciting head-to-head battles all year, with plenty of highlights at the rim on both sides.

In NBL27, expect to see that go up a notch, with both star big men playing at a career-best level for their respective sides.

Mennenga is carrying a heavy offensive load for his undermanned Breakers outfit, whereas Magnay is proving why he is one of the most dominant forces in the League when he is fit and firing.

New faces, new roles

The New Zealand Breakers welcome in German guard Nelson Weidemann to help bolster their guard stocks.

The 10-year professional is heavily touted as a strong defensive weapon, whom Gordon Herbert knows well from his time with the national team.

While Weidemann gets acclimated to his new team and the League, Carlin Davison is relishing the extra opportunity as the team’s primary ball handler, putting up career numbers in his last two outings.
