Aussies Abroad: Daniels notches big milestone in Hawks' win

Dyson Daniels has helped the high-flying Atlanta Hawks rip apart the Brooklyn Nets as they soared to their fourth straight NBA victory and 18th in 20 games.

The Australian had 11 points, four rebounds, six assists and five steals in the Hawks' 141-107 win at the Barclays Center in New York on Friday (Saturday AEDT).

Daniels also reached a personal milestone, notching his 500th career NBA steal. At 23 years and 17 days, he became the fifth-youngest player in league history to reach the mark.

Daniels' teammate CJ McCollum had 25 points and seven assists as Atlanta (45-33), fifth in the Eastern Conference, remained 1.5 games ahead of sixth-placed Philadelphia and seventh-placed Toronto, and moved within 3.5 games of fourth-placed Cleveland.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker added 21 points and Jalen Johnson had 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Nic Claxton led Brooklyn (18-59) with 16 points.

In Dallas, Wendell Carter Jr scored 28 points as the Orlando Magic beat the hosts 138-127, overcoming a 51-point showing from rookie No.1 pick Cooper Flagg and handing the Mavericks their 14th consecutive home loss.

Desmond Bane had 27 points as the Magic remained a half-game behind eighth-placed Charlotte in the Eastern Conference.

Coach Jason Kidd and Maji Marshall were ejected seconds apart early in the fourth quarter for the lottery-bound Mavericks, who are on their longest home losing streak at American Airlines Center.

Flagg was caught up in the disagreement that led to Kidd's ejection, drawing his own technical foul before Kidd went on to the court to protest the same non-call.

The 19-year-old responded with 24 points in the fourth quarter to become the youngest player in NBA history to record a 50-point game.

Flagg went 19-of-30 from the field, including 6-of-9 from long range, and made all seven free throws.

At Madison Square Garden, OG Anunoby scored 31 points as the Knicks routed the Chicago Bulls 136-96.

All-Star point guard Jalen Brunson had 17 points and 10 assists to help the Knicks win their second straight game after dropping three in a row.

For New York (50-28), the blowout victory secured their third consecutive season with at least 50 wins.

Collin Sexton had 19 points for the Bulls, who have lost their past six games and 10 of 12.

Australian Josh Giddey, back in the Bulls side after missing with a hamstring issue, had six points, five rebounds and five assists.

In North Carolina, Australia's Josh Green contributed six points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal as his Charlotte Hornets beat the Indiana Pacers 129-108 for their eighth win in 10 games.
