Boomers back court fires against Jordan

The Australian Boomers back court of Anthony Dell'Orso, Angus Glover, Elijah Pepper and Tom Wilson combined for 62 points and 10 assists in another FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers win over Jordan, 126-93.

It was the second game of the weekend in the Philippines for the Boomers coming off the 123-64 thumping of Syria on Friday as they took on a Jordan team on Sunday who lost a one-point thriller to the host nation in Manila.

It didn’t take long for the Boomers to take control with the first 12 points of the contest on the way to the 18-2 lead to set up the rest of the contest which they would end up prevailing by 33 points.

It was four players in the back court all getting ready to play in NBL27 who showed the way for Australia with new Perth Wildcats signing Anthony Dell'Orso producing another 19 points with 3/6 three-point shooting.

His Wildcats teammate Elijah Pepper had 32 points on Friday with eight threes and had another 14 points and six rebounds this time around while South East Melbourne Phoenix star Angus Glover produced 16 points.

Melbourne United's Tom Wilson put up 13 points and five assists with the Boomers remaining undefeated in the qualifying stage ahead of next year's World Cup in Qatar.

It was a blistering start from the Boomers with a 12-0 run and with Jordan taking more than five minutes to score in the game.

Australia would end up leading 18-2 and still being up 29-16 by quarter-time with Pepper having eight points, Glover seven and Dell'Orso while as a team they went 13/15 at the foul line.

That would continue to be the theme of the game with fouls dominating the contest and by half-time the Boomers were leading 63-41 while gong 18/21 at the stripe with Jordan going 20/20 to make up for shooting 3/17 from the outside with Australia going 9/18.

It was another 28 points to 23 in the third quarter in favour of the Boomers and then 35 to 29 in the fourth for the eventual 33-point win on the back of shooting 52 per cent from the field to go with 14/31 from the outside and 30/35 at the foul line.

On top of what the four NBL guards produced, Tasmania JackJumpers big Josh Bannan shone for Australia with 15 points and five rebounds with Dash Daniels adding nine points and four boards, Tanner Krebs nine points on 3/4 three-point shooting, and Nick Kay eight points, three rebounds and two assists.

Returning Melbourne United star Luke Travers delivered a strong all-round game too with seven points, 10 assists and six rebounds.

Earlier, it was a big win for the New Zealand Tall Blacks as well with the 126-74 victory against Syria.

That saw Corey Webster show he's still got plenty left in the tank with 22 points and 6/14 shooting from the outside while emerging Adelaide 36ers superstar Flynn Cameron delivered 21 points, four rebounds and three steals.

New Zealand Breakers Sam Mennenga also put up 20 points and five rebounds on 8/9 shooting with Reuben Te Rangi contributing 13 points, four rebounds and four assists, Sam Waardenburg 13 points and four boards, Carlin Davison 10 points, three rebounds and three assists, and Tai Webster nine points and nine assists.
