Davis warns there’s more to come

He’s had arguably two of the most successful seasons in NBL history and now, reigning Championships Series MVP Kendric Davis believes he can take his game to even greater heights next campaign.

US star Davis, who guided the Sydney Kings to the Hungry Jack’s NBL26 championship, recently penned a new two-year deal with the Harbour City side.

During a recent interview with the Memphis Tigers Basketball Podcast, the 27-year-old reflected on his first two seasons in Australia and explained why fans should expect even more next year.

“I'm always looking for ways to get better and stay hungry,” Davis said to the Tigers Basketball Podcast.

“It was great that I was able to prove a lot of doubters wrong, because a lot of people said I’d get my numbers, but you can't win with him.

“So to win a championship was very pleasing, more so than all the money, which I give all to my family anyway.

“I don't even care for the money; I just do it because this is like therapy for me. I just love the hoop, I love basketball.

“But it was pleasing that I was able to sign a deal that can take care of my family and I can invest and hopefully have generational wealth one day.

“But I'm just still grinding, still trying to get to the League (NBA). I'm still young; I'm only 27, so hopefully I get my opportunity.”

Davis, who finished as the NBL27 MVP runner-up behind Bryce Cotton, hopes a third strong season in the competition can catapult him to achieve his dream of the NBA.

“I know I belong in the NBA,” Davis said.

“I believe I'm probably the only guy that was an All-American, won Player of the Year, had an amazing college career, didn't get drafted and never got a two-way.

“Everywhere I've been, I've dominated. I went to the G League camp, made it to the NBA Combine, but I was the only one without a two-way on a regular G League contract to make the All-Rookie Team.

“I then went to the NBL and did something that's never been done before in two years.

“But when you look at my resume, it's alarming to me that I’ve never had a two-way offer.

“When I go to [wand watch] the NBA, I look at it like I belong in the NBA, but for whatever reason, I haven't got that shot.”

Joining Davis on Brian Goorjian’s side for next season are Xavier Cooks, Torrey Craig, Matthew Dellavedova, Jaylin Galloway, Keli Leaupepe, Makuach Maluach, Harry Wessels, Tyler Robertson, Jason Spurgin, and Jayden Stone.
