Where things stand

All the points from Australia's six games in the first stage of qualifying for the World Cup carry over to Phase two. The Boomers hold a small lead in Group E, sitting on top with 14 points, just ahead of Iran, Jordan and New Zealand who have 12 each.

The Boomers must finish top three to earn a place at the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Qatar.

Pepper on fire
Elijah Pepper produced the standout individual performance of Friday's win over Syria, torching the nets for 32 points, the most ever recorded by an Australian in FIBA World Cup Qualifying history.

The Perth Wildcats guard was near unstoppable from beyond the arc, connecting on 8 of his 12 three-point attempts, and will be eager to carry that red-hot shooting touch into the Boomers' next outing.

Friday's result was as much a showcase of the Boomers' depth as it was of individual brilliance. Eleven players logged 13-plus minutes on the floor, and all but one finished with eight points or more, a clear statement of how much talent Australia can call on beyond its NBA contingent.
