The Jacob Chance era at Melbourne United officially tipped off this week, as the team began their Hungry Jack's NBL27 pre-season training.

Recruits Joe Ingles, Luke Travers, Sam Waardenburg and Sean Macdonald were all present, along with the rest of the revamped squad - with only big man Josh Oduro absent.

Upon reflecting on how the beginning of their journey towards the NBL27 championship, Chance explained how excited he is by his versatile group.

"We've got such a great and unique group of young, old and experienced [players], especially welcoming back experienced guys like LT (Travers) back into the fold," Chance said to United Media.

"I love our depth and our versatility. The important thing now is getting on the same page and making sure we can execute when that time comes."

After one year abroad as the Head Coach of the Austin Spurs in the NBA G League, Chance said the transition back to United, a club in which he spent two seasons as an assistant coach, has been an easy one.

"A lot of familiar faces here obviously helps, [so I feel] very well supported," he said.

"I did a lot of work in Austin before I came down here and feel like it hasn't been that long since I've been back in this gym, which is a good thing.

"We've just been trying to get as much information to the guys as we can and put us in the best spot to go and tackle this next kind of six weeks."

Joining Ingles, Travers, Waardenburg, Macdonald and Oduro in the United squad, who are still in the market for an import point guard, this season will be Chris Goulding, Shea Ili, Kyle Bowen, Christian D'Angelo, Fabijan Krslovic, Malith Machar, Tom Wilson, Jensen Bradtke and Harry Neilson.

Melbourne open the season with a blockbuster against Adelaide on Saturday, September 19 at John Cain Arena.
