The NBL on Thursday announced a new partnership with Australian sports technology company iCoach, using AI and predictive intelligence to bring fans, coaches and broadcasters closer to the game.

The partnership reflects the NBL's ambition to lead the way in innovation, using AI to turn the huge amount of data and vision generated by every game into insights people can actually engage with and enjoy.

For broadcasters, that could mean instantly surfacing the story behind a big moment in-game: a historic basket, a trend of individual achievement, or an important team milestone; giving fans richer context on the numbers and highlights unfolding in real time.

Heath O'Loughlin, Chief Media & Content Officer, NBL Group said: "For our broadcast, this partnership is about giving commentators and fans the context they need and deserve in the moments that matter most.

"When amazing things happen in-game, iCoach will play a key role in helping our commentators bring that story to life instantly, rather than losing it in the flow of the game.

"It's a genuine step forward in how we tell stories about the players and key people in our competition."

The NBL has signed a multi-year partnership that gives the NBL and iCoach room to keep innovating together as AI capability advances.

Anthony Soriano, Founding Director, iCoach added: "This is an incredible vote of confidence in both our technology and the long-term vision for what we can build together.

"The NBL has established itself as one of Australia's most progressive sporting organisations, and we're incredibly excited to work alongside the league to help shape how AI and predictive intelligence can enhance basketball over the next decade."
