The playing contingent from Melbourne United, who have stayed in town during the off-season, are doing all they can to ensure the club returns to the Playoffs in NBL27.

Leading that group are United stars Chris Goulding and Shea Ili, as well as former club Development Players headed to the NCAA, including Joel Foxwell, Tom Koppens, Campbell Blogg and Henry Sewell, plus numerous NBL1 athletes.

Each Monday afternoon, these athletes take part in off-season runs, hosted by the club’s coaches.

One of the men in charge of these workouts is United assistant coach Jack Fleming, who praised Goulding and Ili for setting a high standard during these sessions.

“Great qualities of both of those humans are their elite approach to everyday,” Fleming said to United Media.

“Chris was being super-aggressive in his mindset in those scrimmages. I think he had 10 threes in our first hit out, so he's been excellent.

“Shea obviously is starting to build back some conditioning through NBL1, and in these runs he’s setting the tone with his defence up the floor and then his pace down the other end has been a great thing to see.”

Two others set to join these workouts in the coming weeks are recruits Joe Ingles and Sam Waardenburg, who will arrive in town from the United States and Puerto Rico, respectively.

“I think once both of them get their feet underneath them, we'll have six, seven, or eight guys running around in July against each other in high-quality scrimmages,” Fleming said.

“Once we get a little bit of conditioning for Joe and then a bit of a rest for Sam, it's going to be high-quality runs every week, which is great coming into the pre-season.”

United has Joe Ingles, Chris Goulding, Shea Ili, Sam Waardenburg, Fabijan Krslovic, Kyle Bowen, Dash Daniels and Malith Machar as rostered players for the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 Season.
