"We're going to be hunted": Kings brace for title defence

For the first time in his Hungry Jack's NBL career, Sydney Kings star Makuach Maluach will head into a new season as a champion.

The Kings' NBL26 title was a dream come true for the NSW product, who played a key role off the bench for Brian Goorjian's side.

But the 28-year-old will be the first to admit that, as satisfying as the 2025-26 campaign was, it doesn't make him or his Harbour City teammates any less hungry for more silverware.

"Now I know what it takes to get to the mountain top," Maluach said to Kings Media.

"It's not easy winning a championship. We know we're going to be hunted and a lot will be expected of us, but I'm embracing that and going into the season hungry."

That squad Maluach alludes to is revamped, following the departures of Tim Soares, Jaylin Galloway and Bul Kuol.

Instead, the Kings now have Andrew Carr, Jayden Stone and Harry Wessels on their roster.

"Everyone can play from one to 12," Maluach said.

"It's not about minutes for us. You go in and do your job, then the next guy comes in and takes over."

Sydney host Cairns in their season-opener on Sunday, September 20 at Afterpay Arena.
