Aussies Abroad: Simmons stirs NBA interest

A return to the NBA could be on the radar for Australian Ben Simmons, as interest builds in the former number one overall Draft pick.

The three-time All-Star, who was recently in Melbourne for the Boomers' player-led camp, this week took part in a workout in Florida, which was reportedly attended by Sacramento Kings general manager Scott Perry.

The performance is said to have caught the eye of those in attendance.

"Somebody who was at those workouts said that Ben Simmons 'looked fantastic'," Sacramento radio host Dave Carmichael said.

Simmons has also been training alongside fellow former NBA All-Star Victor Oladipo at the Canes facility in Miami, with both players working towards a return ahead of the new season.

The 30-year-old has not featured in an NBA game since April 2025, sitting out last season entirely due to injury.

In other Australian NBA news, it appears wing Josh Green could be on the move once again.

Months after being traded from the Charlotte Hornets to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Green is reportedly in the mix to be moved to accommodate the latter's recent acquisition of Jonathan Kuminga.

According to the New York Times, "The Wolves will have to make a roster move to free up the additional $3 million and stay under the second apron.

"To make that happen, sources said the Wolves will likely look to trade veteran Josh Green, who is making $14.6 million, for a player making less money.

"The Wolves could also waive and stretch his salary to create the room needed to sign Kuminga."

Green has played 388 games across his six seasons in the NBA, with Dallas and Charlotte.
