A bizarre incident has marred the opening of the JackJumpers’ brand-new $20 million High Performance Centre.

Just days after the ribbon-cutting ceremony in Kingston, a car slammed into the centre on Saturday night.

Police are searching for the driver of the Holden Commodore that struck the building at around 10pm. Reports say officers attempted to intercept the vehicle before losing sight of it, then found it after it had crashed into the JackJumpers’ new home.

The driver fled the scene, while no one was injured in the incident.

The complex features two full-size courts, strength and conditioning areas, recovery facilities, treatment rooms and team meeting spaces. It will serve as the headquarters of both the Tasmania JackJumpers and Tasmania Jewels.

Despite the drama, the damage appears to be minor, and the club is expected to continue settling into its new home while police investigate.
