Talking points

Weathering the storm
The Brisbane Bullets got a big win over Cairns on Thursday and are now just finding ways to pile up wins, until they welcome back Mitch Norton and Sam McDaniel.

With Dakota Mathias having a solid debut on Thursday, this Brisbane team has enough weapons to be winning a lot of games.

Sydney's response
The Kings have had six days to sit and dwell on their shock loss to Tasmania on Sunday and it will be interesting to see how they come out and attack this Bullets team.

With their inconsistencies under the microscope of fans, what kind of response will Brian Goorjian get from his team?

What they're saying

Bullets coach Stu Lash on facing Sydney:
"It's the biggest game for us of the season at this point and we've put ourselves in a position where we're right in the middle of the ladder.

"Sydney's had a tough start so they're going to come in with a real edge and urgency, there's no doubt, and they are one of the benchmark clubs in this league.

"To have them here at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Saturday night, we'll have a great crowd and we're really looking forward to that opportunity to compete."

Kings coach Brian Goorjian on his side's 3-5 start:
“We’re in a real dogfight now.

"Lost to Cairns at home, lost this one [against Tasmania], had a good win against Adelaide that kind of balanced the Cairns situation - but now we’re in a dogfight all the way through.

"I like going to battle with these guys. I come in and I just feel like they’re gonna do themselves proud. That’s a really good basketball team - a team that has a chance to win it - and we were right there with them the whole game.

"One of the things we’ve talked about all year is: you’re gonna take punches - it’s about how we respond. And right now, so early in the year, there’s already pressure the rest of the way.

"I just feel comfortable that these guys are gonna come out, take a deep breath, and go there again. If we play like we did tonight and continue to grow, we’ve got a chance in every game we play."
