Roth returns to Defend the Island

The Tasmania JackJumpers have rewarded championship coach Scott Roth with a new two-year deal, taking him through until the end of the Hungry Jack's NBL29 season.

Roth has coached the JackJumpers across their first five campaigns, leading them to the NBL24 Championship.

"The biggest thing for me is the people of Tasmania," Roth said. "That's the driving force, the impact Tasmanians have on my family, on my life. They've been so gracious in welcoming us, I'm grateful and humbled, and hungry for the next two years."

Roth is also the figure behind 'Defend The Island', the rallying cry  coined that has since become synonymous with JackJumpers basketball and embraced by fans across the state.

"Our triumphs are Tasmania's triumphs," Roth said. "The community, every Tasmanian, has really backed us and believed in us.

"That pride and belief in our team gave Tasmanians a real pride and belief in themselves too.

"I think we've also raised the bar and paved the way for others like the AFL to build a team here with confidence, it can happen and should happen on this island."

Club chair Steve Old paid tribute to Roth's impact on the club and the state of Tasmania.

"Scott didn't just coach a basketball team - he helped build a club, a culture and something that Tasmania has truly made its own," Old said.

"Scott understands Tasmania, Tasmania understands Scott - and it's a pretty special combination.

"We've achieved some incredible things together, but neither Scott nor this club is interested in looking backwards. We genuinely believe the best chapters of the JackJumpers story are still to be written."

CEO Trent Jacobs said he was confident Roth was the man to lead the club to more success.

"We were clear that Scott is the right man to continue to lead the JackJumpers and we believe he can continue to consistently have us competing in finals and fighting for championships," Jacobs said.

Roth boasts a 52 per cent winning record across his NBL coaching tenure, leading his team to the finals in four out of five seasons at the helm.
