United recruit inspired by Chance encounter

Jacob Chance’s coaching style commanded attention across the NBA G League, even from those on the opposing bench.

New Melbourne United import Josh Oduro admits he was among Chance’s admirers and is now eager to play under the coach he once competed against.

“Man, I can’t praise Jacob’s coaching style enough,” Oduro said via CODE Sports. “The way he was coaching was at a really high level. They had good players, don’t get me wrong, but just the way he ran that organisation, the way the players played, they played hard and they played smart.”

The talented centre joins a star-studded United roster featuring new additions Joe Ingles, Luke Travers and Sam Waardenburg, as the club enters an exciting era under Chance.

After an impressive college career with George Mason and Providence, followed by two strong seasons in the NBA G League, Oduro views the move to Australia as another major opportunity to showcase his talent.

“Just from the talks that we had throughout this recruitment, I’m really excited for not only how he’s (Chance) going to use me, but how he’s going to blend this team together,” Oduro said.

“I can’t wait to see what we can do.

“I’ve got a really good feeling and I want to go out there and win it all.”

Oduro averaged 15.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks a game in his most recent G League season with the Birmingham Squadron, while also making three appearances for the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA.
