Melbourne United and Dean Vickerman are in “active talks regarding a potential release from the remainder of his contract,” according to ESPN’s Olgun Uluc.
There has been plenty of discussion around Vickerman’s future in recent weeks, despite him being contracted for the upcoming season.
"Vickerman, who’s been at the helm of United since 2017, has a head coach opportunity in Japan, sources said," Uluc said via ESPN.
A three-time NBL champion, Vickerman has built a strong legacy with United since taking over the role, winning titles in 2018 and 2021, before finishing leading his team to runner-up honours in in 2024 and 2025.
After recently being appointed associate head coach of the Boomers under Adam Caporn, speculation has continued to build that Vickerman could be set for a new challenge in the Asian market.
