2016 NBA champion turned broadcaster Richard Jefferson has heaped praise on the NBL, highlighting Australia's deep-rooted love of basketball and the calibre of talent on display in the competition.

Jefferson, who won a title alongside Boomers legend Matthew Dellavedova during Cleveland's 2016 championship run, says the return of "Delly" and the arrival of proven NBA talent like Cole Anthony are rapidly building the NBL's reputation on the world stage.

"I think Australia is probably the fastest growing when you talk about conversations inside the basketball community," Jefferson told CODE Sports.

"The talent, the quality and level of basketball is only going to continue to grow as more and more people find out how amazing the country is and how much they love basketball here."

Jefferson called Anthony's move a benchmark moment for the League, given the guard is arriving in the prime of his career.

"I think Cole Anthony is going to do great (in the NBL) and there'll be more and more players as revenue increases, as the growth of the game increases (wanting to play in Australia)," he said.

Jefferson said Australia could compete with any country in the world on the strength and professionalism of its league.
