JackJumpers urged to 'build team around' star

“If I'm Tasmania, I'm re-signing him ASAP and not letting anyone else get him.”
Ever since Bryce Hamilton first landed in Tasmania, he’s been a revelation for the JackJumpers.
During his first season with the Apple Isle club, the American produced an All-NBL quality season while producing averages of 18.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists.
While he won’t be suiting up for Scott Roth’s side during the Hungry Jack’s NBL26 Finals due to an ACL injury, three-time NBL champion Casey Prather has encouraged the JackJumpers to lock up the import long-term.
“I'm just building a team around Bryce [Hamilton],” Prather said on Tuesday’s episode of NBL Now.
“It's a shame that he hasn't signed a contract before his injury, but he's a great player who's already proven what he can do in this league.
“Now it's all about him getting his body right.
“If I'm Tasmania, I'm re-signing him ASAP and not letting anyone else get him.”
As it stands, the JackJumpers only have Josh Bannan. Nick Marshall, Kobe Williamson and Archie Woodhill are under contract next season, with there being a mutual option on Ben Ayre.
Another import who is currently injured and off contract with his side is Brisbane Bullets’ Prather, who hopes to return for NBL27.
“Right now, I'm still uncontracted for the next season,” he said.
“I'm excited about the opportunity to come back and play.
“I've obviously got bigger expectations for myself, and we'll get on those phone calls as soon as possible when the season is over.
“Hopefully it's in the NBL somewhere. I don't see why it wouldn't be, but let's see [how it plays out].”
The JackJumpers tip off Round 22 of the 2025-26 season on Wednesday against Illawarra at MyState Bank Arena from 7.30pm AEDT, live on ESPN.
